Jennifer Aniston to Grace '30 Rock' with Her Presence

HOLLYWOOD - Jennifer Aniston is coming home. The actress is to make a guest appearance on NBC’s 30 Rock, the same network that launched her career with super hit Friends, the Associated Press reports. Jennifer Aniston's publicist Stephen Huvane confirmed Friday but did not give immediate details on the role Aniston will play--as herself or a fictitious character--or the episode's planned air date. It should be a catfight between her and Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon, don’t you think? Or maybe a new love interest for Alec Baldwin? And us 30 Rock enthusiasts remember last year when Aniston’s Friends alum David Schwimmer had a 30 Rock guest spot last season as Greenzo, the environmental superhero. Classic.

Adrian Grenier and Kevin Connolly Catch Up on the News

On HBO's Entourage, the characters played by Adrian Grenier and Kevin Connolly typically make their own news as an actor and his manager, respectively.
During a break in filming season five, though, the stars caught up on the latest happenings, courtesy of The New York Post.
So, what were New Yorkers
reading about this week? Alex Rodriguez being terrible in clutch situations and Hillary Clinton showing off her great oratory and political skills. In other words: the usual.

Chelsea confident of new era with Robinho

Peter Kenyon said yesterday that Chelsea’s summer transfer business will be concluded once Robinho completes his move from Real Madrid, a signing that the chief executive believes will show that the club are poised to reach a new level under the management of Luiz Felipe Scolari. Chelsea’s previous big-name buys from Europe’s powerhouse clubs in the Roman Abramovich era have been in or about to enter their thirties, but the Brazil forward is only 24. He is expected to cost about £29 million once the protracted negotiations are finally over but Kenyon is confident that the deal will go through shortly. As well as enhancing the team, Chelsea’s ability to attract Robinho underlines their growing status. “This is a different signing, that’s why it has taken so long,” Kenyon said, speaking to mark the release of the club’s second Corporate Social Responsibility report on their community activities. “I think he comes with real desire and wants to be recognised as one of the best players in the world. I know everyone does, but Robinho is different to what we have had. “We are gaining respect every year and the rest of Europe sees us as a real club. A lot of that has been behind-the-scenes work, we’re very influential in European football. If you look at where we were five years ago to where we are, it has been a meteoric rise. It is about growing up and, ultimately, you win the Champions League and that cements your position.” Kenyon said that the presence of Scolari, the former Brazil and Portugal coach, was key to attracting Robinho. “He’s absolutely committed to wanting to come,” he said. “He’s the right age and he’s come from Madrid so he understands what big-club football is all about.” Scolari said: “He’s a very good player because of his unpredictable style. If you expect something, he can change in a second. He’s different.” Purchasing Robinho and Deco, the Portugal midfield player who signed from Barcelona this summer, will mean the attainment of Chelsea’s targets. Kenyon said that when he discussed transfers with Scolari, “he came up with two names — one was Deco and one was Robinho. What we’re doing is supporting Scolari, how he wants to change and move the style a bit to take us to the next level.” Avram Grant, Scolari’s predecessor, was criticised for lacking authority, but no one would level that accusation at the Brazilian. “He is doing a great job for us,” Kenyon said. “One of his big skills is that he’s forever dealt with big players. I don’t think big players faze him because, to him, everybody is a big player and he’s always worked with them. “We’ve got 14 different nationalities at Chelsea, so there is a different dimension to it. He’s fitted in and it feels he’s been here for ever.” The same could not be said of Andriy Shevchenko. The striker has rejoined Milan on a season-long loan, with the Italian club paying all his wages. Nine league goals in two seasons seems a poor return on his £30 million transfer fee. Kenyon maintains, however, that Chelsea received value for money from Shevchenko. “Yes, I do \,” he said. “You have to look at these things pragmatically, sometimes these things don’t work as well as you want them to. Remember, we got Deco for £8 million and that looks to be the buy of the season. You have to counter these things and we are happy with where we are.” The arrival of Robinho would push Shaun Wright-Phillips even farther down the pecking order but yesterday his agent said that the winger does not want to join Manchester City or Everton. Diddy Plays Down Cop Confrontation

Sean 'Diddy' Combs is playing down reports he was held at gunpoint by a Los Angeles police officer on Saturday, insisting he wasn't in a car stopped by cops. Reports suggested the rap mogul was pulled over during a routine traffic stop in the early hours of Saturday morning on the city's Sunset Boulevard. The vehicle was flagged down by police because it did not have the proper registration plate details.
An officer allegedly pulled a gun on Diddy when the star and his entourage approached him as he took down details and reported the traffic stop.
But a spokesperson for the rapper insists just one car in a seven-vehicle fleet was pulled over-- and Diddy wasn't in it.
She says, "Sean's car did not get pulled over. No gun was pulled directly at him. One of the cars traveling in a seven-car entourage was pulled over for not having proper tags. The driver was not issued a ticket because the car was a rental vehicle."

'Thunder' Reigns Again With $16.1 Million Weekend

August 25th, 2008 9:06am EDT

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The action comedy "Tropic Thunder" weathered a rush of new movies to remain No. 1 for a second-straight weekend with $16.1 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The Paramount-DreamWorks release — starring Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black as actors caught up in real battle while shooting a war movie — raised its 12-day total to $65.7 million.
"Tropic Thunder" came in just ahead of Sony's campus comedy "The House Bunny," which debuted in second place with $15.1 million. "The House Bunny" stars Anna Faris as an ostracized Playboy bunny who becomes den mother to a sorority of campus misfits.
Universal's "Death Race" — an update of 1975's "Death Race 2000," with Jason Statham starring as a driver in a kill-or-be-killed auto race of the future — opened at No. 3 with $12.3 million.
The weekend's other new wide releases, Ice Cube's sports drama "The Longshots" and Rainn Wilson's music comedy "The Rocker," opened weakly.
"The Longshots" — an MGM-Weinstein Co. release starring Ice Cube as a former high school star coaching his niece, the first girl to play Pop Warner football — came in at No. 8 with $4.3 million.
20th Century Fox's "The Rocker," starring Wilson as an over-the-hill heavy-metal drummer who gets a chance at stardom with a high school band, took in $2.8 million to finish at No. 12.
After a run of blockbuster weekends, late summer was proving the usual dumping ground for modest movies as business slowed and audiences eased into back-to-school mode.
That opened the door for "Tropic Thunder" to repeat as the weekend's box-office leader.
"There isn't that divide where there's a couple of huge movies coming every week," said DreamWorks spokesman Chip Sullivan.
Summer's biggest hit, "The Dark Knight," continued its climb up the box-office charts, placing fourth with $10.3 million. The Warner Bros. Batman sequel has taken in $489.2 million on its way to becoming the second film ever to top $500 million, after "Titanic" ($600.8 million).
Overall movie revenues of $3.9 billion are slightly ahead of last summer's record pace. But higher admission prices mean the actual number of tickets sold is down about 3 percent compared to summer 2007, according to box-office tracker Media By Numbers.
Still, Hollywood should finish with a box-office record and a second-straight summer topping the $4 billion mark.
"Thank you, 'Dark Knight.' That's added close to half a billion dollars," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers. "One film like 'The Dark Knight' can make a huge difference."
In limited release, Focus Features' comedy "Hamlet 2" pulled in $435,000. Starring Steve Coogan as a high school drama teacher staging a campy, irreverent musical sequel to Shakespeare's play, "Hamlet 2" expands into nationwide release Wednesday.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.
1. "Tropic Thunder," $16.1 million.
2. "The House Bunny," $15.1 million.
3. "Death Race," $12.3 million.
4. "The Dark Knight," $10.3 million.
5. "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," $5.7 million.
6. "Pineapple Express," $5.6 million.
7. "Mirrors," $4.9 million.
8. "The Longshots," $4.304 million.
9. "Mamma Mia!", $4.303 million.
10. "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," $4.1 million.

Beckhams Deny 'Horrific' Car Crash Reports

HOLLYWOOD - Victoria Beckham and her husband David have lashed out at reports stating they had been involved in a "terrifying car crash", insisting the incident never happened. The showbiz couple were reportedly visiting their home in the village of Bargemon, close to the French Riviera, last week, August 18, before the soccer star was due to fly to Beijing, China to take part in the Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday, August 24.And as the pair made their way to Nice airport so the star could catch his plane to China, the pair was involved in a horrific crash, which left their black BMW with a smashed windscreen and extensive damage along the passenger side. Reports stated David Beckham reportedly smashed the car laterally into a wall, leaving his wife severely shaken, with speculation the accident occurred due to paparazzi hounding the couple. But the couple's spokesperson, Cheryl Maisel, has denied the crash ever happened, blaming online gossips for the false story. She says, "There was no car crash. David and Victoria Beckham were driving a car that had been scratched the day before when it had been left parked at the airport, they were not involved in any accident at all. There was no police, no crash, no paparazzi chase, etc., just very incorrect reports via Internet gossip sites."

The Script, Perry In Charge On U.K. Charts

สิงหาคม 25, 2008 , 10:15 AM ET

Paul Sexton, London

The Script and Katy Perry continued their reigns on the U.K.'s album and singles charts respectively yesterday (Aug. 24), with the Irish band's self-titled debut for Phonogenic starting a second week at No. 1 while "I Kissed a Girl" moving into a third. The Script also saw its single "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" edge up 3-2 behind Perry, trading places with Kid Rock's former No. 1 "All Summer Long" (Atlantic). Rihanna's "Disturbia" (Def Jam) improved 6-4, Madcon's "Beggin" (RCA) rose 7-5 and Noah and the Whale's "5 Years Time" (Vertigo/Universal) jumped 9-8, while Scottish rock trio Biffy Clyro scored its first U.K. top 10 single at No. 10 with "Mountains" (14th Floor/Warner Music). That comes five years after the band notched the first of nine previous top 40 hits with "Questions and Answers." Welsh rock quartet the Automatic, best-known for the top five hit "Monster" of two years ago, opened at No. 16 with "Steve McQueen," the first single from its new album, "This Is a Fix." Nigerian-British soul artist Taio Cruz climbed 32-20 with "She's Like A Star" (4th & Broadway/Universal). The top four of the album chart were unchanged, with ABBA's "Gold -- Greatest Hits" (Polydor/Universal) at No. 2 again, followed by Duffy's "Rockferry" (A&M/Universal) and Coldplay's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" (Parlophone/EMI). The highest new entry, at No. 5, was Monkey's "Journey to the West" (XL Recordings), the album of the contemporary opera written by Damon Albarn and designed by Jamie Hewlett, both of Gorillaz. The show had its premiere season in Manchester last year and made its London debut at the Royal Opera House last month. The show uses nearly 40 Chinese performers including acrobats, martial artists and singers, with an orchestra combining Western and Chinese instruments.

A newly released "Greatest Hits" set on Universal Island by Lynyrd Skynyrd, inspired by the reference to the band's "Sweet Home Alabama" in the Kid Rock hit, entered at No. 16. The original single, which has been bubbling under the top 40 for the last few weeks, climbed back 55-48. On Billboard's pan-European charts, the Coldplay album is in a ninth week at No. 1 on European Top 100 Albums, while Perry's track leads Eurochart Hot 100 Singles for a second week.

Reports: McCartney to perform in Tel Aviv

Aug. 24, 2008, 11:46 AM EST

JERUSALEM (AP) -- Sir Paul McCartney is set to perform in Israel, 40 years after his legendary band, the Beatles, were banned from playing in the Holy Land.
Israeli media were abuzz with excitement on Sunday with news of McCartney's visit. The rock star was scheduled to play earlier in the year, but the show was canceled. Israeli media reported McCartney would perform in Tel Aviv on September 25.
Tel Aviv city officials could not be reached to confirm the report. McCartney's publicist, Stuart Bell said, "Nothing's been confirmed."
The Beatles were set to tour the Jewish state in 1965, but they were refused entry permits over concerns the group's lyrics could corrupt Israeli youth.

Madonna Starts 'Sticky And Sweet' Tour In Wales

Even at 50, the queen of pop just can't stop courting controversy. As Madonna kicked off her international "Sticky and Sweet" tour Saturday night in Cardiff, Wales, she took a none-too subtle swipe at the presumptive Republican nominee for U.S. president.Amid a four-act show at the packed Millennium Stadium, a video interlude carried images of destruction, global warming, Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, Zimbabwe's authoritarian President Robert Mugabe -- and U.S. Senator John McCain. Another sequence, shown later, pictured slain Beatle John Lennon, followed by climate activist Al Gore, Mahatma Gandhi and finally McCain's Democratic rival Barack Obama. The rest of the show had the usual Madonna fixtures: sequins, fishnets, and bondage-style outfits drawn from the 3,500 items of clothing reportedly whipped together by 36 designers specifically for the tour. Dancers sauntered across stage in top hats and tail coats, and Madonna tried her hand at break-dancing and pole-dancing.Some 40,000 fans, many in pink cowboy hats and boas, were treated to a heavy metal version of "Borderline," while "La Isla Bonita" served as backdrop for a flamenco routine. The show, billed as a musical mishmash of "gangsta pimp," Romanian folk, rave, and dance, was an homage to Madonna's continuous reinventions over the past three decades. She took a playful take on her variegated career, mocking dancers dressed as her previous incarnations -- including the "Material Girl" and "Blonde Ambition"-- before they sank into the stage to the tune of "She's Not Me." Madonna finished off the concert with her thumping "Give it 2 Me" from her new urban-inspired album, "Hard Candy."

Following Cardiff's opening concert, "Sticky and Sweet" moves across Europe, hitting London's Wembley Stadium on Sept. 11 and Paris on Sept. 20. From there, it goes to North America in October before wrapping up Dec. 18 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
